Fresh Changes to Credit Reports – Your Rent Payment Matters Too
A change is gonna come… and if you are a renter, it could be great news for your credit report.
Experian, one of the big three credit bureaus, began including rental payment data on consumer credit reports in January, and will affect the Experian credit score and VantageScore. It’ll be a good addition to most consumers’ credit toolbox, but as with all big changes, there could be a downside.
Right now, Experian has gathered rent payment history from large property managers of approximately 8 million residents nationwide, but reporting rental data could easily become a more widespread practice amongst credit bureaus. Getti
Hawaii meetings showcased at Washington DC tradeshow
Destination Showcase
HONOLULU, HI – On Thursday, the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) is teaming up with the Hawaii Convention Center at a Washington, DC tradeshow to sell the Hawaiian islands for association meetings.
Called Destination Showcase, the one-day tradeshow is taking place February 24 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The expected 2,000 attendees will be especially valuable to the Hawaii sales team, being comprised of association meeting planners and executives responsible for site selection of upcoming meetings and conventions.
“Destination Showcase is a strong opportunity to promote Hawaii as a desirable location for meetings and incentive travel,” said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA). “In addition, our ability to reach the type of attendees at Destination Showcase will complement Hawaii’s efforts to capitalize on the interest in our state as we prepare to host the 2011 APEC Leaders’ meeting in November.”
Adding to the significance of Destination Showcase to the Hawaii sales team is that Washington, DC has approximately 3,500 national and international associations based in the region, the highest concentration in the world.
“We’ve been seeing encouraging results recently in new leads from associations that are consistent with the economy growing stronger and the pent-up demand of groups wanting to resume travel abroad for business meetings,” said Michael Murray, CMP, CMM, CASE, HVCB vice president of sales and marketing for corporate meetings and incentives. “Hawaii is well-positioned to take advantage of new opportunities and Destination Showcase is an ideal venue to network and capitalize on our industry relationships.”
Organizing the Hawaii sales exhibit at Destination Showcase is Meredith Parkins, HVCB’s Washington, DC-based regional director of accounts.
HVCB is contracted by HTA to provide marketing management services for the conventions, meetings, and incentives market segment.
How To Use 401k For Mortgage Purposes
With the difficulty in the housing market, and an increasing number of foreclosures, many people are looking for help with their mortgage payments. For many people their 401k account is their largest untapped resource of funds. Unfortunately, using your 401k for mortgage payments or other reasons can be tricky, and expensive.
401k Withdrawal for Mortgages
Most 401k plans do not allow current employees to withdraw funds from their current 401k. There are two major exceptions.
Remember that all 401k plans are governed by their own specific rules as specified in their plan document. The features described below are allowed, but not required, by IRS rules. As such, they may not apply to your employer’s 401k plan.
A 401k hardship withdrawal allows a current employee to withdraw money from their 401k account for expenses that are “immediate and heavy.” Immediate and heavy expenses can include payments necessary to avoid foreclosure or eviction, or even expenses associated with purchasing a home. There
Report: $20 Billion Mortgage Servicer Settlement being Discussed
The Obama administration is trying to push through a settlement over mortgage-servicing breakdowns … some state attorneys general and federal agencies are pushing for banks to pay more than $20 billion in civil fines or to fund a comparable amount of loan modifications for distressed borrowers …This is just preliminary – and is just a broad outline of a possible settlement. This is the first I’ve heard of a possible number for fines and/or loan modifications.
